Science Says: The Pros and Cons to Masturbating

The adult world is, for the most part, divided into two groups: Those who masturbate, and those who lie. Whether you’re ‘cranking one out’ or ‘flicking the bean’ it’s a normal and actually healthy part of life. Now, as kids, we’ve all heard about how terrible masturbating is and how it can cause you to go blind or have bad acne. So, is there any truth to this? Here is a look at some of the pros and cons of getting yourself off.

For men, masturbation has been proven to reduce the risk of prostate cancer. That right there is more than enough reason to have a wank every now and again. Not only that, masturbation has also been proven to greatly reduce mental stress and tension in both sexes. For women, menstrual cramps can be relieved (at least temporarily) thanks to masturbation.

A few other pros include aiding insomnia and depression. The immune system is also improved when someone regularly masturbates. Masturbating frequently can also help with the following: high blood pressure, fatigue, improving heart rates, controlling swelling of blood vessels, produce fresh sperm cells, endorphins, and white blood cells. It also has been shown to boost metabolism.

A study conducted at the University of Münster, Germany, showed that masturbation can help greatly reduce the pain of a migraine, and in some cases, even get rid of it all together. Most doctors and sex therapists agree that regularly masturbating can actually help your sex life with your partner. Not the other way around.

WHAT ABOUT THE BAD THINGS?

Well, the good news is that you won’t be getting hair palms, no matter how much you touch yourself. The whole thing about acne, however, does have some truth to it. For males, masturbation can lead to a spike in hormones that are responsible for acne and breakouts. However, you’d have to be cranking one out 10 times a day every day for it to really make a real noticeable difference.

As sad as it is to say, there is such thing as too much masturbating. Constantly masturbating too frequently over a course of several years can result in an influx of sex hormones that can cause memory loss, fatigue, and even blurred vision. For men, erectile dysfunction can also become an issue due to excessive masturbation. Too much masturbation can also make it harder for your partner to ‘please you’ which has been shown to cause a strain in some relationships. Some studies have even shown a correlation between excessive ejaculation and hair loss. Women can also experience swollen genitals due to masturbating too frequently.

The bottom line is that masturbating, like anything, has its pros and cons. Masturbation is great, and it has plenty of benefits. But don’t take it for granted, because apparently, you’ll end up bald and infertile.
